Class Descriptions
Creative Dance
A creative dance class based in ballet, where dancers will learn movement concepts, and some basic ballet vocabulary. The class includes imaginative stretching and the exploration of classical ballet through games and exercises.
Pre-Ballet 1
Children develop coordination, listening skills, and musicallity. Classes introduce more ballet vocabulary, class structure, with the focus on etiquite and the appreciation of dance.
Pre-Ballet 2
Contiues working on the skills developed in pre-ballet 1, with a higher degree of focus and discipline.
Ballet 1A
This class provides the basis and foundation for classical ballet. The curriculum helps children learn correct placement of body, and positions of the arms, head, and legs. The students develop their musicality through understanding different rhythms and are encouraged to explore performance quality.
Ballet 1B
Builds upon skills developed in ballet 1A with one hand on the barre, requiring more strength. Focuses on strength and more technical concepts of ballet.
Ballet 2
At this level turning is introduced; with a solid placement of the torso, larger movement and jumps are incorporated as well as a more challenging degree of musicality.
Ballet 3
This level focuses on longer barre work, increased tempo for speed, combinations of steps learned in lower levels, and coordination of upper and lower body movement. With a strong foundation, dancers are able to focus on movement and self-expression through dance.
Ballet 4A
Barre exercises become more difficult and dancers focus on adagio movement, jumps, and other combinations for strength. Ankle strenght is developed to prepare for pointe work.
Ballet 4B
Students begin pointe work but only at the barre; they learn how to stand properly in their shoes. As stretch and strength increases so does the difficulty of the combinations of steps both in both barre and center work.
Ballet 5
Having learned all ballet vocabulary, students continue working on strength, stability, balance, and elevation through more complicated adagio and allegro combinations. Pointe work continues to develop as dancers move away from the barre to center exercises. With the introduction of classical variations, musicality and performance skills are perfected.
Ballet 6
Level 6 dancers are now in their final phase of studies. Artistry is emphasized and strength is solidified. Dancers are given a taste of the pre-professional world of dance through our company (by invitation only).
